Growing sustainably

Our mission is to keep people safe from infection, whilst protecting our environment. Sustainability continues to be at the heart of our top 11 priorities and we've identified 3 areas where we can make the biggest difference.

Our commitment to the environment

Objectives-03-01

Manufacturing and Packaging

We are currently developing a surface cleaning and disinfection wipe that is both effective and biodegradable.

50% of our wipes will be plastic free and 100% of our packaging will be recyclable by 2025.

Objectives-02

Waste Disposal

We are vigorously streamlining our operations to stamp out waste in all areas of the business from accounts through to the canteen and bathroom facilities.

75% reduction in the volume of our waste by 2022.

Objectives-03

Energy and Fuel

Less energy, less fuel, less impact. From 2020 all our new company cars will be electric plug in hybrids.

We will have fully moved over to electric cars by 2030 as part of our complete eradication of fossil fuels.

Partnerships in sustainability

ISO 14001 accreditation sets a standard for environmental performance through more efficient use of resources and reduction of waste and we are on course to achieving it.

We are an active participant in the European Disposables and Nonwovens Association (EDANA) and their work relating to wet wipes and sustainability .

Our commitment

Through our Environmental Sustainability Programme, we are committed to implementing changes across our business to deliver innovative products that protect and care for both people and the planet.

  • Developing a surface cleaning and disinfection wipe that is both effective against harmful organisms and is biodegradable is currently a challenge. To overcome that challenge, we're going to have to develop and test new technologies. We've invested in a state-of-the-art research facility in Halifax where our scientists are currently exploring the use of renewable resources for product development. Our lab is home to specialists in wet wipe substrate, packaging development, chemistry and microbiology.

  • We're currently working towards ISO 14001. This standard sets out the requirements for an environmental management system and helps organisations improve their environmental performance through more efficient use of resources and reduction of waste.

  • We have established an Environmental Sustainability Steering Group which is tasked with managing the immediate and long-term environmental impacts of GAMA's products, services and processes.

  • GAMA Healthcare is a member of The European Disposables and Nonwovens Association (EDANA) and is an active participant of working groups relating to wet wipes and sustainability.

  • We have replaced our plastic bubble wrap with environmentally-friendly paper bubble wrap to send out all our samples.
