Wash or decontaminate your hands. (Risk assess PPE according to local policy).Remove anything attached to the rails, such as a bed control panel. Apply the brakes and raise to a suitable height.Always wipe from clean to dirty.Use approximately 2 wipes, using a separate wipe for each cot side or bed rail. Should your wipe dry out or become soiled, replace it with a new wipe. Do not re-wet the wipe.Start at one side of the rails and wipe over the entire length of each rail and all surfaces.Wipe each supporting vertical rail.Wipe the section where the rails connect to the bed.Make sure all exposed surfaces including ledges, brackets and cables are cleaned. Remove detachable sections to clean, where possible.Leave to air dry to allow sufficient ‘contact time’ with the disinfectant.Dispose of cleaning wipes as per local protocol. Remove PPE, wash or decontaminate hands and if required complete a record of cleaning, as per your local protocols.
