Wash or decontaminate your hands. (Risk assess PPE according to local policy).Remove any consumables and ensure any power supply is switched off (if safe to do so). Apply the brakes and raise to a suitable height.Always wipe from clean to dirty.You’ll need approximately 5-7 wipes. Should your wipe dry out or become soiled, replace it with a new wipe. Do not re-wet the wipe.Wipe in an ‘S’ shaped pattern from the head of the bed to the bottom. Use the same method to wipe both sides of the headboard and footboard.If the bed has rails or cot sides, clean these also (see separate crib sheet for a step-by-step guide to cleaning bed rails).Make sure all exposed surfaces including ledges, brackets and cables are cleaned. Remove detachable sections to clean, where possible.Lastly, clean the wheels.Leave to air dry to allow the disinfectant enough contact time to work. Dispose of cleaning wipes as per local protocol.Remove PPE, wash or decontaminate hands and if required, complete a record of cleaning, as per your local protocols.
